#Official Commentary of Ekaterina Martyanova on unlocking of economic subgroup’s work in Minsk
Yesterday in Minsk a really significant event happened – the subgroup on economic issues after a long break resumed its work. After ten failed by fault of the Ukrainian side meetings, Kiev suddenly lifted all claims against the DPR representative, and the subgroup as if nothing had happened could start work.
The involuntarily question arises: what happened? How suddenly the representatives of Ukraine had a desire to unlock the work of the economic subgroup, despite their previous claims? Perhaps the answer lies in the threat of an energy crisis that is looming over Ukraine, and under of which the pressure of the Kiev delegation had to abandon the “obstacles” far-fetched earlier.
Nevertheless, it is good news, since the resumption of dialogue and the search for solutions to the most critical issues of an economic nature are very important to the process of peaceful settlement of the conflict in Donbass. The only pity is that the reasons that force Ukrainian side for dialogue are not good will but fear of the already looming economic threat.
Due to the unfounded claims of Ukraine’s representatives a lot of precious time had been lost. Perhaps if the Ukrainian side did not show their personal ambitions and unreasonable obstinacy in dealing with such important issues, the crisis like that could have been avoided. But as they say, better late than never.
